About the business

Alimetry is a health technology company. We specialise in the design, development, and production of medical devices for diagnosis and interpretation of gastrointestinal motility. We are focused on next-generation solutions for gastric dysfunctions. Our mission is to decode the gut to transform care.

About the role

We're looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data & AI team and take ownership of the data systems that power our commercial operations and executive decision-making. This is an established, functional data platform with automated ETL pipelines, cloud SQL databases, scheduled reporting, and executive dashboards already in production. Your job is to keep it running reliably, improve it over time, and be the person the rest of the company trusts with their data.

What makes this role interesting:

  • You'll work directly with our CEO, President of US Operations, and COO - they rely on your dashboards and reports daily

  • You'll integrate data from a genuinely diverse set of systems: our proprietary medical device cloud, Salesforce, Xero, Greenlight Guru, Google Workspace, and more

  • You'll own the full data lifecycle - from source extraction and de-identification through to the reports that land in Google Chat every morning

  • You'll be a solo practitioner in this space, reporting to the Head of Data & AI - this suits someone who is self-directed and takes pride in reliability

  • You'll work in a regulated environment (medical devices, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 13485) where data quality genuinely matters

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance Python-based ETL pipelines that move data between cloud systems.

  • Manage cloud-hosted PostgreSQL databases (schema, performance, access.)

  • Keep executive dashboards and Google Chat notifications running accurately and on schedule.

  • Integrate data across multiple third-party platforms via REST APIs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial, clinical, quality, and finance teams.

  • Drive data quality improvements - when a report breaks because upstream data was entered incorrectly, you'll work with the source teams to fix the root cause.

  • Handle ad hoc data requests from teams across the business.

Must haves:

  • 3–5 years of experience in data engineering, BI engineering, or a similar hands-on data role

  • Strong Python skills (pandas, API integrations, automation scripts)

  • Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL preferred)

  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)

  • Experience building/maintaining ETL pipelines and scheduled jobs

  • Excellent communication skills - you'll be explaining data to people who aren't data people

  • Comfortable working autonomously

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Google Workspace integrations (Sheets, Sites, Chat, Apps Script)

  • Familiarity with any of: Salesforce, Xero, Greenlight Guru

  • Understanding of BI/commercial reporting processes

  • Knowledge of data privacy (HIPAA/GDPR), medical devices (FDA/ISO 13485), or cybersecurity (ISO 27001)

  • Background in health tech, biology, or signal processing

Why Choose Alimetry?

  • A genuinely interesting domain - you're working with real patient data and medical device technology

  • Direct impact - your work is seen and used by the executive team daily

  • Autonomy - you own your systems end-to-end

  • Flexible approach to start and finish times and hybrid working arrangements (3 days in the office and 2 days remote) to help you manage your work-life balance.

  • Amazing inclusive culture where everyone feels welcome and valued.

  • Genuine opportunity for growth as you develop your skills and the company scales.
