Internship - Product Design

About Us

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in your next role?

At Basis, our purpose is to radically accelerate the clean-energy revolution - starting with smarter, safer, and more efficient homes. We’re focused on improving experiences for people through the application of technology, data, and a deep understanding of human behaviour.

Why? As a society, we need to decarbonise and accelerate the transition to alternative energy sources. Existing solutions are expensive and disparate, with limited functionality.

Basis is driven by purpose, real innovation, and ambition. We have a talented team spread across New Zealand, with a creative space by the beach in Takapuna, and a Design Lab in Christchurch where our physical products come to life.

The Role

Basis is looking for an outstanding intern to join our team to contribute to Basis’ vision and product by supporting the research and ideation of our Energy Experience. We are focused on helping consumers reduce their energy costs and improving electrical safety in homes. You will contribute to user research, testing, and ideation to assist the team in shaping a better and more affordable energy experience.

This role is primarily focused on Digital Product Design, you will be participating in both UX and UI focused work. You will also contribute to other product design initiatives like workflows and user manuals for example.

Some of the things that you might be involved in include:

  • Ideation - Use design thinking to translate insights and product goals into feature concepts.
  • Prototyping - Craft prototypes and proof-of-concepts of app features, screens and workflows for testing and validation with participants.
  • Design Reviews - Participate in and learn from design reviews with the team.
  • Detail Design - Where required, push ideas further with higher fidelity, taking on feedback from testing and reviews.
  • General Design - Contribute to design tasks such as product workflows, documentation and user manuals.
  • Research - Perform design and user research to inform design or testing objectives.
  • User Testing - Plan and participate in testing of early design, prototypes and higher fidelity proof-of-concepts, evaluating performance, usability and desirability of your designs.
  • Synthesis of Insights - Analyse research and user testing findings to develop insights that help you and the team optimise product outcomes for our users.
  • Collaborate - with the product and design teams to shape and push ideas further so that we can ship a better and more affordable energy experience

Working closely with our product management and design teams on this practical design project is a great opportunity to support your learning and professional development as you continue your education. This is a fixed term, full time role based out of our offices in Takapuna, Auckland.
