Senior Digital Product Designer
About Us
At Basis, our purpose is to radically accelerate the clean-energy revolution - starting with smarter, safer, and more efficient homes. We’re focused on improving experiences for people through the application of technology, data, and a deep understanding of human behaviour.
Basis is driven by purpose, real innovation, and ambition. We have a talented team spread across New Zealand, with a creative space by the beach in Takapuna, and Electronics Design Labs in Christchurch where our physical products come to life.
Our team is smart, curious and has some big goals - so if you’re interested in joining a fast-growing and startup that is design-led and puts people at its core, then we’d love to hear from you!
The Role
As a Senior Digital Product Designer at Basis, you will play a central role in the end-to-end design of our digital products (primarily mobile and web applications), delivering exceptional user experiences through research, prototyping, testing, and high-fidelity design. This role is instrumental in shaping the journey of both consumers and tradespeople ("electricians") by applying deep design craft, user empathy, and a holistic design approach.
Some of the things that you might be involved in include:
- User Research: Conduct research and analysis to identify user needs and pain points. Provide a well-defined user narrative and contribute to the strategic direction of projects.
- User Testing: Lead usability testing initiatives to identify issues, pain points, and areas for improvement. Gather feedback and iterate quickly to refine digital experiences.
- User Experience Design: Apply a holistic, end-end human-centred design approach (ideation to delivery). Facilitate the design of journey and story maps based on robust research. Define and design intuitive user experiences by identifying user problems and devising elegant solutions.
- Prototyping: Create wireframes and prototypes using Figma or similar tools.
- High fidelity design: Deliver high quality, production-ready UI screens, components and user flows. Contribute to and help evolve design systems and component libraries. Maintain well-documented design specifications to support efficient development.
- Design acceptance: Review, test and accept developed app screens, flows and features from a design and experience perspective. Maintaining a high, but pragmatic bar for quality.
- Strategy: Assist Head of Design with creation and execution of design strategy.
- Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders, product design teams (both physical and digital), development teams, and test engineers to define project goals, user flows, and information architecture. Work alongside design peers to critique, review and develop ideas and mentor junior team members. Translate product strategy into design direction by participating in discovery, roadmap planning, and cross-functional prioritisation.
You will be expected to work efficiently and pragmatically, drawing on your experience and leveraging the right tools to move quickly through the process—so your focus remains on delivering quality, elevating design craft, and creating exceptional user experiences.
