About Becoming
Becoming is building Developmental Intelligence: AI for predicting how organisms change over time.
Development is intelligence in motion. Most experimental systems fail when metabolic demands become too high. We are building systems that don’t — combining engineered metabolic environments, longitudinal measurement, and predictive models to turn development into something that can be understood, tested, and controlled.
This is frontier tech with real stakes. We value speed, rigor, integrity, and ownership.
The Role
We are seeking a Manufacturing & Prototyping Technician to support fabrication, assembly, sterilization, and experimental system setup for custom biological devices and bioreactor platforms.
This is a highly hands-on role involving rapid prototyping, precision assembly, aseptic workflows, and experimental hardware setup. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working across fabrication tools, fluidic systems, and biological lab environments.
What You’ll Own
Manufacture and assemble custom devices using:
- 3D printing
- Laser cutting
- Hand assembly and finishing
Perform post-processing of fabricated parts including cleaning, curing, polishing, deburring, bonding, and inspection
Assemble sterile fluidic and biological systems
Support setup, preparation, and maintenance of experimental bioreactor systems
Prepare tubing, fittings, pumps, and experimental assemblies for biological experiments
Maintain strong aseptic technique during assembly and handling of components
Sterilize, package, label, and organize components and consumables
Execute SOPs consistently and document manufacturing steps clearly
Perform quality control inspections and identify defects or inconsistencies
Support inventory management, organization, and lab operations
Work closely with engineers and scientists to rapidly iterate on prototypes and manufacturing workflows
Who You Are
You are someone who:
- Operates with high agency — you take initiative and don’t wait to be told what to do
- Takes ownership of outcomes, not just experiments
- Brings high energy and momentum to ambitious scientific problems
- Acts with high integrity — you are honest about data, limitations, and uncertainty
- Communicates directly and clearly, especially when things aren’t working
- Is self-aware and receptive to sharing and receiving feedback
- Thinks like a systems integrator, connecting biology, environment, hardware, and data
- Thrives in fast-moving tech environments where priorities evolve quickly
- Experience with 3D printing and/or laser cutting
- Strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong aseptic technique and clean handling practices
- Comfortable performing repetitive precision tasks with consistency
- Ability to follow SOPs precisely
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity
- Full benefits
- High-trust, high-ownership environment
- The opportunity to define a new scientific category from the ground up
