Location: NZ (Wellington preferred but not critical)

Contract: Permanent, full-time with flexible hours and options for part-time

Reports to: Head of Impact

Our Purpose:

Cogo’s purpose is to enable everyone to join together to create a fairer and more sustainable world. We build solutions that help businesses and consumers measure and improve their impact on people and the planet. Our pioneering technology and data helps people better understand the impact of their daily decisions and take climate action. We support and encourage people on their journey to becoming more conscious consumers and living a sustainable lifestyle.

Our Values:

Mission Driven:

We are unified in our desire to create products that empower people to fundamentally improve the world. This desire drives us to finish every week knowing we’ve done all that we can.

Trust and Transparency:

We are open, honest and accountable and work hard to win trust. We share openly, challenge supportively and always speak truth to power.

Lead with Integrity:

We always strive to do the right thing, not just the easy thing. We are focused on the future and want to inspire others to join us there based on our purpose and principles.

Together we Grow:

We want everyone to feel they belong. We celebrate our diversity and recognise that our impact is greatest when we act as one team and all move forward together. We succeed together, learn together and have a shared sense of fun.

About the Role:

We are looking for a professional with 2-5 years relevant experience who has a solid understanding of carbon footprinting, and the ability to channel that knowledge into our innovative work with banks, businesses and people to generate quantifiable positive impact. Our Carbon Impact Specialist will report directly to our Head of Impact.

Your work will involve strengthening Cogo's Carbon Models, with a focus on managing our personal model, and assisting with our home energy model and our small business model. Each model contains our approach to building climate literacy, footprinting and reduction measurement. This is a core element of Cogo’s science-based approach that helps power our products and solutions in multiple countries. You’ll be comfortable working with large amounts of data and assessing its credibility and fit for use in our carbon models. Occasionally you’ll engage with clients as a carbon expert.

As an integral part of a small team you’ll have a large influence on enhancing the credibility of Cogo’s digital solutions, and play a big part in supporting Cogo's impact and future growth. We are looking for an adaptable and knowledgeable professional who can quickly integrate into our mission-driven team, and help effect Cogo’s positive impact on the climate crisis.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and improvement of Cogo’s Carbon Models and Climate Actions for individuals in our active countries, and support our model work for small businesses
  • Investigate and respond to carbon data queries and issues raised by Cogo team members, clients, and end users
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to iteratively improve the quality assurance and coverage of core sustainability data to best support clients
  • Conduct desk research to inform our carbon model improvement roadmap, and improve our understanding of the climate regulatory landscape
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key Impact data partners and affiliates across our active countries

Experience and Skills

  • 2-5 years of experience in carbon footprinting and mitigation strategy, as applied to personal, business, and/or product contexts
  • Good understanding of what credible, suitable input data for carbon footprinting looks like
  • Good understanding of key sustainability principles and how they apply to individuals, households and/or businesses, in order to provide solutions to real world problems, and quantify the impact
  • Ability to quickly understand complex topics, and to communicate key concepts effectively to a broad and non-technical audience
  • Ability to analyse datasets and models to identify strengths and weaknesses, and to take corrective action to address weaknesses
  • Awareness of ‘Environmentally Extended Input-Output’ (EEIO) Models is desirable, but not critical

About You

  • You are a proactive problem solver and bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills and are adept at building relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation
  • Strong academic background, and able to balance the inherent complexity of sustainability challenges, and the need to provide sufficient clarity and certainty of next steps to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams and equally effective working in different environments (remote, office, etc)
  • You have a high level of attention to detail, including a proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Flexibility to commit to some regular meetings outside of a 9-5 working hours to engage effectively with our global team
  • Have a pragmatic mindset, focused on understanding theory and encouraging others to take action
  • Excellent business judgement, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Comfortable working in both technical and non-technical spaces
  • Have a curious and self-starter mindset and seek to suggest improvements to our way of working as we grow
  • Excited to work in a company that’s making a positive change in the world, and passionately engaged in the Cogo mission
