Who we are

At DataMasque, we’re on a mission to help large enterprises protect their sensitive data while maintaining the performance and usability of their systems. We believe that data masking should be smart, scalable, and designed for the ever-evolving needs of today’s enterprises.

With 5x revenue growth since our Seed Raise and a team that embodies grit, innovation, and collaboration - we’re well-positioned to continue our upward trajectory.

Based in beautiful Auckland (and with boots on the ground in Australia and the US!) - now is the perfect time to join our journey as we build the future of data security.

The difference you’ll make

As a Technical Product Designer, you’ll play a vital role in creating and refining solutions that address real-world user challenges around data masking, ingestion and integration. You’ll leverage your hands-on expertise with data pipelines, databases, ETL processes, and expertise in Cloud services to deeply understand how customers use our product, then partner with stakeholders to translate business and security needs into intuitive, scalable features that deliver value.

Note: we'd love for this role to be based in Auckland (NZ), but we're also open to this being a remote role for applicants based anywhere in NZ or Australia.

What you'll do:

  • Design masking functionalities and processes to work with enterprise datasets, ensuring scalability and security and a real-world end-user focus.
  • Evaluate competitive data masking features and architecture to inform product improvements.
  • Lead requirement discovery workshops to clarify needs, confirm assumptions, and surface potential edge cases.
  • Develop and refine technical solutions for scalable implementation.
  • Conduct business process mapping and analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Elicit, analyse, and document data masking requirements, ensuring clarity and alignment with business objectives.
  • Develop detailed user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria to guide development efforts.
  • Manage shifting priorities and communicate requirement changes effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with product architects to ensure alignment on design and technical strategy.
  • Work closely with the development team to drive practical and efficient execution.
  • Work hands-on with databases and AWS infrastructure to validate design decisions.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable product strategies.

About you:

  • 4+ years of experience as a data engineer, technical business/systems analyst or similar role.
  • Proven experience working on building, managing and optimising data pipelines, databases, and systems for processing large volumes of data.
  • Proven experience working with relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases, including performance optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with (or a strong desire to learn) cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and related services for data storage and processing.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, database design, and optimisation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with data security best practices, ensuring compliance and data privacy.
  • Knowledge of data masking, data security, or compliance frameworks.
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native architectures.

Why join us?

  • Be part of the Product Team, shaping the user experience and quality of DataMasque.
  • Work on cutting-edge data security solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Gain hands-on experience with cloud and database technologies.
  • Join a dynamic, flexible and collaborative work environment.
  • Be part of a fast-growing company that’s scaling globally, with opportunities to shape and lead impactful product initiatives.
