About Us
Based in the central North Island just outside of Taupō, Geo40 Ltd is a leader in sustainable mineral recovery. We are at an exciting inflection point, with demonstration-scale lithium assets nearing completion and our silica business continuing to grow. We are now seeking a Plant Operator to join the Silica Operations team at our Ohaaki site.

This is a full-time position involving day/night shift work on a rotating roster (2x12hr days followed by 2x12hr nights, 4 days off). While the core focus is on plant operations, there may be opportunities to contribute to our international lithium or silica micro-piloting projects.

About the Role
As a Plant Operator, you will join an experienced Operations Team. You will be responsible for operating Geo40’s two silica extraction plants at Ohaaki, which convert geothermal brine into high-value colloidal silica using our proprietary process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the plant independently, ensuring production meets required specifications.

  • Conduct routine operational checks, make process adjustments, and perform basic maintenance tasks.

  • Monitor and control plant operations via HMI and SCADA systems, both on-site and remotely.

  • Identify and resolve operational issues using trend analysis and troubleshooting skills.

  • Maintain a strong safety culture by identifying hazards and ensuring safe work practices are followed by all on site.

  • Liaise with contractors, ensuring compliance with site procedures and safety standards.

  • Suggest improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of standard operating procedures.

  • Manage the receipt and dispatch of consumables and product.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in plant operations, process control, or maintenance in a manufacturing or heavy industry environment.

  • Completion of an External Operator course (e.g., NZ Certificate in Energy and Chemical Process Operations Level 3 or higher) is preferred. Equivalent qualifications (e.g., National Diploma, NZCE, Trade Cert) will also be considered.

  • Familiarity with SCADA and HMI systems is highly valued.

  • Full NZ Driver’s License (a ‘W’ endorsement is a bonus).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Teams).

  • Understanding of work control systems (e.g., permit to work) and CMMS is an advantage.

  • Strong time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation and its application in industrial settings.
