About the role

Halter is flipping the livestock world on its head. Our collars and software let farmers move and manage animals with a swipe of their phone. No bikes, no fences, no stress. We’re scaling fast across NZ, Aus, and the US, and the stakes keep getting higher.Halter’s growth depends on more than brilliant technology, it depends on exceptional commercial leadership.

As Head of Commercial Strategy, you’ll architect the engines that power our next stage of global expansion. This means pricing that accelerates adoption, packaging that sharpens our value proposition, partnerships that unlock growth, and frameworks that help us win markets before competitors even see them coming.

You’ll sit shoulder-to-shoulder with Halter’s leadership team, defining where we play and how we win, then making sure those decisions come alive in the field. This role starts as a high-impact individual contributor, but is explicitly designed to grow into a people-lead role, building and leading a world-class Commercial Strategy team as Halter scales.

What your day could look like

  • Build and own pricing & packaging strategy

  • Design, test, and optimise pricing and packaging that drive acquisition, expansion, retention, and margin.

  • Partner with Product, Finance, and Sales to operationalise pricing changes globally.

  • Create long-term frameworks that guide how we monetise new capabilities and markets.

  • Create Halter’s partnership revenue engine (from scratch)

  • Identify, evaluate, and stand up strategic partnership models that unlock new distribution, data, and revenue streams.

  • Build the commercial structures, incentives, and economic models that make partnerships scalable and profitable.

  • Serve as the point person for assessing, launching, and iterating partnership motions as we expand.Lead mission-critical commercial initiatives.

  • Own chunky cross-functional bets across GTM, Product, and Ops — from incentive redesigns to new market entry strategies.

  • Translate executive ambition into executable commercial plans with clear success metrics.

  • Model what matters

  • Build CAC models, opportunity sizing, scenario analyses, and financial structures that drive crisp decision-making.

  • Create modelling standards the future Commercial Strategy team will inherit and scale.

  • Tell a tight, compelling story, execute it, and make it stickTurn complex ideas into clear, concise narratives for execs, the board, investors, and frontline teams.

  • Craft decks, memos, and enablement materials that align teams and accelerate execution.

  • Roll out playbooks, remove roadblocks, monitor impact, and iterate quickly.

  • Ensure commercial strategies don’t just get approved — they get adopted, measured, and improved.

  • Scout the future and grow the function

  • Track market shifts, competitive intelligence, farmer needs, and macro trends to keep Halter ahead of the curve.

  • Build long-term perspectives on where Halter should place its biggest commercial bets.

  • As Halter scales, build and lead a high-performing Commercial Strategy team.

  • Establish the rituals, standards, and culture of a world-class commercial strategy function

What we're looking for

  • You’re a strategist who knows how to build real-world engines, not just frameworks, playbooks and pitchdecks.

  • You can crack messy problems, craft the model that reveals the answer, and then operationalise it across teams so the organisation actually moves.

  • You’re also deeply commercial.

  • Pricing, packaging, segmentation, incentives, partner economics.

  • You understand the levers and how to pull them.

  • Ambiguity doesn’t scare you; in fact, you run toward it. You think clearly, communicate crisply, and have the rare ability to turn complex ideas into simple, actionable stories people remember and can get behind and make happen.

  • And you’ve got range. One day you’re mapping a multi-year GTM strategy or designing a partnership ecosystem from scratch; the next you’re pressure-testing assumptions in a spreadsheet or unblocking sales so a strategy actually lands.

  • You build trust quickly, make people’s lives easier, and are a champion of cross-functional collaboration.

  • Whether it’s big picture strategy or in-the-weeds execution, you flex between them seamlessly, and eventually build and lead the team that owns this muscle for Halter.


You'll crush this gig if you

  • Operate with dynamic range – happy dreaming up multi‑year market plays, then diving into a messy spreadsheet or a 10‑slide fire‑drill before lunch.

  • Model fast and beautifully – Excel or Sheets is second nature. Your files are tidy, editable, and give clear answers without a 20‑minute tour.

  • Tell a tight story – whether it’s a one‑pager, a Loom, or a board pack, you make the complex feel simple and the path forward feel inevitable.

  • Own it, end‑to‑end – set priorities, run the list, make crisp calls, and keep momentum. No waiting for perfect clarity.

  • Influence without ego – build trust quickly across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Ops.

  • People loop you in early because you make their lives easier.

  • Think big, start small – spot long‑term angles but aren’t afraid to test with a scrappy v1 today.

  • Thrive in speed and ambiguity – startups, consulting, high‑growth SaaS, agtech, hardware – wherever you’ve been, you got sh*t done with half the info.

Bonus points if

  • Top‑tier strategy consulting or high‑impact internal strategy team experience.

  • Exposure to agtech, SaaS, or hardware businesses.Track record of shipping projects that out‑live you.
