About Halter

At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.

We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role

We’re changing the way the world farms - and with that comes a responsibility to the producers worldwide who trust us with their animals. Halter collars aren’t serviced, aren’t repairable and need to last 6-10 years, anywhere across the globe. The only way we know they will is by testing them relentlessly - and that testing happens in our lab.

As a Test Lab Technician, you’ll be the hands that keep our test lab running. You’ll set up and run tests, move collars between test rigs, put hardware through our production and verification jigs, and keep our equipment maintained, commissioned and calibrated. You’ll also build and modify the test equipment our engineers need, and take ownership of how the lab itself is organised - putting systems in place and holding the standard so that anyone can walk in and find what they need.

This is a hands-on, high-volume, detail-driven role. We’re looking for someone who wants to be genuinely excellent at running test lab operations. The quality of every reliability decision Halter makes rests on tests being run correctly, consistently and on time, and on a lab that’s in good order.

What you’ll do

  • Set up, run and monitor hardware tests to the documented test plans

  • Move, install and reconfigure collars across test setups

  • Put collars through our production and verification test jigs.

  • Own the day-to-day maintenance of lab equipment - routine servicing, calibration checks, consumables, and getting faulty equipment back into service quickly.

  • Move, install and commission new equipment into the lab, working with suppliers and internal teams to get it up and running and safe to use.

  • Assemble and modify test equipment, fixtures and jigs, including support for delivering on the test equipment builds committed for Q3.

  • Implement and maintain the organisation systems the lab needs - labelling, storage, sample and unit tracking, consumable stock levels.

  • Keep clear records of what was tested, when, on what equipment and with what result, so investigations and reports can rely on the traceability.

  • Communicate proactively with the Hardware Test team on test status, blockers, equipment issues and timelines

  • Follow and improve lab safety and housekeeping practices, raising hazards and near-misses as you see them.

  • Other duties as required from time to time.

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on experience in a lab, workshop, production or field service environment - an electronics, mechatronics or engineering background.

  • Practical hands-on skills: comfortable with hand and power tools, mechanical assembly, basic soldering and wiring, and using test equipment such as multimeters and power supplies.

  • Genuine care for accuracy and process discipline - you follow the test procedure as written, record data properly, and speak up when something doesn’t look right rather than letting it through.

  • A natural organiser. You notice when things are out of place, and you’re motivated by building systems that keep them in place, not just tidying up once.

  • Strong sense of ownership and a bias for action - you see what needs doing and get on with it without waiting to be asked.

  • Clear, honest communication, and comfort working alongside engineers and asking questions when something isn’t clear.

  • A curiosity to understand how the product works and why we test it the way we do, and the consistency to do that work to the same standard on day 400 as on day 4.

  • Low ego, highly collaborative and willing to play for the front of the Jersey.
