Senior Market Researcher
Full job description
About Ideally
Ideally is reinventing market research so real human insight can be part of more creative and commercial decisions.
Research has traditionally been slow, expensive and difficult to access when decisions need to be made. Ideally changes that. Our AI-powered research platform helps marketers and insights teams get robust consumer feedback quickly, so they can make better, more customer-led decisions.
In just three years, we’ve grown to 250+ clients including Google, Omnicom, Kraft Heinz and Danone across 30+ countries. With teams in Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and New York, we’re now building the next stage of our growth across APAC and the US.
Why work at Ideally
Research is changing fast, and you’ll have the opportunity to be part of what comes next; applying your research expertise in an environment where AI and technology are opening up new ways to deliver insight.
You’ll work collaboratively alongside high-calibre, low-ego people across Research, Customer, and Product Engineering, with exposure well beyond a traditional research role. We keep bureaucracy light and give people the autonomy to use their judgement, solve interesting problems and own their impact.
We set a high bar, but believe ambitious work should be sustainable. High performance and high care coexist here: candid feedback, genuine support, and good humans who enjoy working together.
About this role
We’re looking for a Senior Market Researcher to be a trusted research partner to our team and customers across APAC.
This isn’t traditional agency research. Our platform enables research to happen at greater speed and scale, changing how research is delivered and the role our researchers play. You’ll work directly with marketers, insights teams and agencies to turn commercial questions into robust, useful research — bringing your expertise into relevant pre-sale conversations, supporting customers through onboarding, advising on project design and interpretation, and helping them build confidence using research through Ideally.
You’ll also work closely with Customer, Product and the wider Research team, bringing what you learn from customers into how we continue improving our research capabilities and platform.
What outcomes you’ll deliver
-
Customers make better creative and commercial decisions through great research. Build trusted research relationships across our customer portfolio, understanding the commercial problem behind the brief and helping customers turn it into research and insight they can act on.
-
Research quality stays high as the pace increases. Provide expert guidance across quantitative methodology, survey design, project set-up, quality assurance and interpretation, delivering robust research at the speed our customers operate.
-
Customers become increasingly capable and confident. Help customers get the most from Ideally and research itself, building their capability from study design through to interpreting and acting on results.
-
Research delivery gets smarter and more scalable. Find better ways to deliver research, using AI, automation and streamlined workflows to reduce repetitive work and create more space for high-value thinking.
-
Research expertise has impact beyond individual projects. Share your knowledge across Ideally and bring what you’re learning from customers into how we continue improving our research capabilities and platform.
What you’ll bring
You’ll be an experienced, commercially minded market researcher with deep quantitative expertise, able to confidently guide everyone from customers new to research through to sophisticated insights teams.
You’ll likely bring:
-
Strong commercial quantitative market research experience across survey design, execution, quality assurance, data interpretation and communicating insights.
-
A solid grounding in consumer and marketing research, with the ability to apply strong methodology to real-world commercial problems.
-
Strong customer relationship skills; you can get underneath a brief, understand what a customer is really trying to achieve and provide clear, credible advice.
-
Strategic thinking and commercial judgement. You can move between research frameworks and methodology, the detail of a survey, and the bigger commercial question a customer is trying to answer.
-
The judgement to balance rigour with pace; maintaining a high bar for research quality without pursuing methodological perfection at the expense of progress or customer outcomes.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex findings into clear, actionable insight.
-
Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity. You’re curious about AI, automation and new ways of working, and open to evolving how research gets done as the technology and business change.
-
A collaborative, low-ego approach. You enjoy getting into the problem with customers and colleagues, rather than operating at an advisory distance.
-
A bias for action. You’re willing to get into the detail, figure things out and move work forward without needing everything perfectly defined first.
Where you’ll work
You’ll be based in our Auckland HQ office. We’re office-primary because we value the connection, collaboration and creativity that comes from working together, balanced with flexibility and autonomy. Typically, the team works remotely two days per week, with anchor office days and further flexibility when needed.
We focus on impact, not hours, and trust you to manage your time, energy and workload to perform at a high level sustainably, without an “always-on” expectation.
Some of the things we offer
-
Competitive salary and ESOP; have a stake in the company you’re helping build
-
A connected global team, including ThinkFest (our annual company-wide offsite in New Zealand)
-
Grow your research career at the intersection of insights, AI and product, with exposure to new ways of delivering research at scale
-
Growth through high-calibre peers, stretch opportunities and scope to expand your impact as Ideally grows
-
Hybrid working and autonomy, with a focus on impact rather than hours
-
Paid parental leave, fertility support schemes and wellbeing resources
The perks matter, but we know they’re not the only reason our team join. The bigger opportunity is to work alongside high-calibre people, help shape the future of research and have meaningful ownership and impact as Ideally grows.
Who should apply and how to put your best foot forward
If this role or Ideally excites you and you can see yourself having an impact here, we’d love to hear from you — even if you don’t meet every requirement. We care more about your research capability, commercial mindset, customer focus and how you think than a perfect match on paper.
We also know from research that female and non-binary applicants are less likely to apply unless they feel 100% qualified. If that’s you, please take this as your nudge to apply anyway. Focus on the bullet points that reflect your strengths and experience, not the ones that don’t.
