Job Description

The candidate will join the Electronics team.

Expanding an existing embedded rust codebase to help with R&D of novel high temperature superconducting (HTS) power supplies and electronics test jigs

The candidate will be working within a team responsible for gathering requirements, designing, developing, testing, and deploying software and firmware. They will be a key player in a broad project that will span frontend development of user-friendly interfaces to backend development working with in-house designed embedded systems. They will have the opportunity to work with senior engineers to create systems that promote rapid research and development of world first HTS systems. This project provides the opportunity to take a lead on the implementation of the application with the support of our team through pair coding sessions, code review, and user testing.

Responsibilities

Research and Development workflow Preparation

The candidate will work with cross-disciplinary teams to gather requirements on our research and development workflows.

Development

The candidate will work both independently and collaboratively to design, develop, test, and deploy an embedded application.

Requirements

Must have - Applicants must have completed either their 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate computer science or electronic engineering (with a strong coding background) degree.

Applicants must have experience of Rust, Python and git.

Nice to have - Experience with: STM 32 micro-controllers, sensing systems, PLC, React, TypeScript

Employment Details

Employment Type: Fixed-term internship.

Compensation:

  • $27.80 per hour - 400 hours.
  • 3% employer kiwisaver contributions.
  • 8% pay-as-you-go holiday pay.

Location: This internship must be undertaken at OpenStar Technologies' facilities in Ngauranga, Wellington, New Zealand. Candidates must be able to work on-site to fully engage with our team and technology.
