Job Description

The candidate will join the Operations team to build and develop internal software tools. Working with the latest in front-end technologies, server-side development, and systems programming, the candidate will be responsible for gathering requirements, designing, developing, testing, and deploying software. This is a broad project that can span various aspects of software engineering (depending on the candidate) including front end development of user-friendly interfaces, backend development to implement business logic and work with databases, or systems programming to aid the development of human-machine-interfaces. This project provides the opportunity to take a lead on the implementation of the project with the support of the wider software team through pair coding sessions, code review, and user testing.

Responsibilities
The candidate will work with cross-disciplinary teams to gather requirements, and then will work both independently and collaboratively to design, develop, test, and deploy full-stack applications.

Requirements

Must have - Applicants must have completed either their 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate software engineering/computer science degree.

Applicants must have full-stack development experience including HTML, CSS, Python, JavaScript, SQL, REST, and git.

Nice to have - Experience with: React, TypeScript, Rust, PLC programming, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Prisma, PostgreSQL, UI/UX design, data visualisation.

Employment Details

Employment Type: Fixed-term internship.

Compensation:

  • $27.80 per hour - 400 hours.
  • 3% employer kiwisaver contributions.
  • 8% pay-as-you-go holiday pay.

Location: This internship must be undertaken at OpenStar Technologies' facilities in Ngauranga, Wellington, New Zealand. Candidates must be able to work on-site to fully engage with our team and technology.
