Role Description:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join OpenStar Technologies. As part of the OpenStar Operations team, you will play a critical role in developing the world’s first HTS Levitated Dipole fusion reactor.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with our existing team of scientists and engineers, working on computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing with our 3 and 5 axis CNC mill operation machines, maintaining the workshop, and working with our existing manufacturing team to plan and purchase tooling as required.
This role requires a hands-on engineer with a strong background in manufacturing and process optimisation, keen problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing:
- Operation - Working on our DN Solutions 3 and 5 axis CNC machines
- Programming - CAD/CAM programming of machining parts using Fusion360
- Quality - Inspect finished products to ensure they meet specifications and reach OpenStar’s expected high quality standards
Task Management and Communication:
- Effectively prioritise and task manage across jobs to satisfy the project critical path
- Collaborate with engineers and designers across multiple projects
Equipment and Tooling:
- Specify, select, and commission manufacturing equipment and tooling
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for equipment
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Ensure all equipment and tooling meet safety and compliance standards
- Adhere to OpenStar’s safety guidelines and best practices
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments and implement necessary controls
Qualifications:
- Education: Trade certificate in machining
- Experience: Experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in a deep tech or high-tech environment
Technical Skills:
Must have:
- 3 Axis CNC mill programming and operation
- CAD/CAM
- Deep understanding of design for manufacture principles
- Ability to use basic metrology equipment to inspect and measure components
Nice to have:
- Experience working with/assembly/disassembly of complex mechanical systems
- Design for assembly
- 5 Axis CNC mill programming and operation
- Mechanical fitting
- Manual mill/lathe operation
- TIG welding for high vacuum and/or sanitary applications
- Diploma in engineering
