Job Description
We encourage people with experience that does not align perfectly with the description to apply. In general, experience from the fields of; nuclear, mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, avionic engineering, or experimental superconductivity, cryogenic, plasma science, for example, will all be considered positive towards your application. There will be flexibility in this role, and we will mould the position around the right candidate.
Our subsystems team covers the R&D, design, and production of a range of auxiliary systems necessary to the mission of producing our levitated dipole reactor. For this role as a Mechanical Engineer, within the subsystems team, you will be tasked with providing thermal, structural, and materials expertise to the design process of our cutting-edge HTS power supplies, and/or cryogenic systems.
Desired Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other related technical discipline
- 3 - 5+ years experience as a mechanical engineer in a fast-paced R&D environment
Key Responsibilities
Will include, but are not limited to;
- Mechanical design for extreme environments
- Thermal modelling for mechanical systems
- Designing thermal connections
- Designing/manufacturing slushy conveyance systems
- Navigating design trade-offs between different cryogenic systems/plants
Desired Skills
- 3D CAD Modelling
- FEM (COMSOL, Ansys etc.)
- Plant automation
- Experience with PLCs
