About Timescapes

Founded in New Zealand in 2017, Timescapes is a visual progress tracking solution for complex construction projects. Our mission is to simplify construction through shared visibility. Customers love Timescapes because it helps them stay on schedule, validate construction claims and communicate progress more effectively.

We’re a rapidly growing company, and are used by some of the largest construction firms across Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States.

The Role

This is our first in-house finance lead. Today our accounting runs through an external partner. Your job is to bring it in-house and build a world class finance function across all five entities.

We are a hardware enabled SaaS business. We deploy a fleet of more than a thousand cameras on customer sites, bundle hardware with software, and sell direct and through channel partners. Getting that right on the balance sheet and in revenue recognition is core to the job.

We want finance built AI-native from the start. The goal is a function that scales with the business without scaling headcount at the same rate.

Our external advisors stay on in an advisory role and will support the transition, but the function is yours. You will work closely with the CEO on forecasting and investment decisions. You start with one direct report, our Billing Analyst, and you will shape how the team grows. Periodic travel to North America will be required as that is our largest growth market.

What You'll Be Doing

Build the finance function

  • Migrate our accounting from our external partner into an in-house function, monthly close and consolidation across NZ, AU, CA and US.
  • Manage compliance and intercompany process across every entity
  • Oversee accounts payable and payroll processing across all entities
  • Own finance systems end to end: ERP, billing integration, sales tax tooling and the single source of truth for financial metrics
  • Design finance to run on automation and AI from day one: close, reconciliations, AP, reporting and compliance calendars. Work with our Automation Engineer to build it, and measure yourself on how much the function scales without adding headcount
  • Build controls, a delegation of authority and approval processes that hold up at scale without slowing the business down

Hardware and the camera fleet

  • Own accounting for our deployed camera fleet: asset register, capitalisation and depreciation policy, recovery and write-offs
  • Own inventory across regions: stock counts, valuation, landed cost and provisions
  • Own tariff, customs and duty costs on hardware imports, working with our supply chain and operations teams
  • Track unit economics per camera and the cash tied up in fleet growth
  • Optimize the use of working capital

Revenue, billing and cash

  • Own revenue recognition across bundled hardware, software, installation and services, including partner and channel arrangements
  • Lead and develop our Billing Analyst, who runs invoicing and collections. You are accountable for DSO, and own deferred revenue and credit risk
  • Own cash management, runway reporting, banking, FX exposure and any debt facilities
  • Reconcile ARR, NRR, gross margin and burn multiple back to the ledger

Forecasting, reporting and commercial

  • Build and maintain the budget, forecast and scenario model with the CEO and external finance partner.
  • Deliver monthly budget versus actual reporting to each leadership team owner
  • Deliver board pack financials monthly and quarterly
  • Support pricing and deal analysis on key contracts, and flag commercial and credit risk in customer terms before signature

Audit, investors and governance

  • Own statutory accounts and entity filings in every jurisdiction
  • Own regular reporting to existing investors
  • Get our numbers investor-ready and support future capital raises, including diligence and the data room
  • Run equity administration and the cap table, including US 409A valuations when required

Tax, compliance and insurance

  • Own tax compliance across NZ, AU, CA and US. US sales tax, income tax, payroll taxes and withholding tax. Work with our tax advisors on preparation and lodgement, and own the filings calendar so nothing is missed
  • Own transfer pricing and intercompany in practice: apply the policy month to month, keep agreements and documentation current, and work with our advisors as the group structure evolves
  • Own R&D tax incentive claims
  • Own our insurance programme across all regions: broker, renewals, coverage and certificates

  • US entity accounting, and reconciling US GAAP with IFRS
  • Has taken a business through investor diligence or a full external audit
  • Has owned finance systems, not just used them
  • Has automated finance processes and uses AI in their own work day to day
  • Strong financial modelling
