Join us at Tradify as a DevOps Engineer, where you'll be instrumental in keeping our platform running smoothly for thousands of tradespeople worldwide. We're looking for someone passionate about automation, monitoring, and making systems more reliable - someone who gets excited about eliminating manual work and building robust infrastructure that just works.

As our DevOps Engineer, you'll be at the heart of our technical operations, working closely with our engineering team to ensure our SaaS platform stays fast, reliable, and secure. You'll help us modernize our infrastructure, automate repetitive tasks, and build the monitoring systems that let us sleep soundly at night (even when you're on-call!). This is a role where you'll see the direct impact of your work - every improvement you make helps our platform run better for the tradespeople who depend on us every day.

You'll tackle interesting challenges across our multi-cloud environment (primarily Azure, with some AWS and GCP), improve our CI/CD pipelines, and help shape how we deploy and monitor our applications. From diagnosing performance bottlenecks to implementing security patches, from writing automation scripts to responding to incidents - no two days will be the same.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their DevOps journey who wants to grow rapidly. You'll learn from experienced engineers, work with modern tools and technologies, and have real ownership over critical infrastructure. If you're the kind of person who automates their morning coffee routine and gets genuinely excited about uptime metrics, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure and Operations:

  • Monitor system health using tools including Pingdom, PagerDuty, Azure Alerts, Raygun, and Azure Application Insights
  • Respond to and help resolve production incidents during business hours and on-call rotations
  • Assist in managing Azure App Services and related cloud infrastructure
  • Support the maintenance of IIS, Windows Services, and Linux VMs
  • Implement and maintain security controls and patches under guidance

Automation and CI/CD:

  • Maintain and improve existing CI/CD pipelines using TeamCity, GitHub Actions, App Center, and Azure Pipelines
  • Identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions to reduce manual tasks
  • Support automated testing and deployment processes
  • Document automation procedures and maintain runbooks

Performance and Reliability:

  • Assist in identifying and diagnosing performance bottlenecks
  • Collaborate with developers to implement performance improvements
  • Help maintain monitoring and alerting configurations
  • Contribute to post-incident reviews and implement preventive measures

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with the engineering team to support development and deployment needs
  • Assist in troubleshooting application and infrastructure issues
  • Participate in planning and implementation of infrastructure improvements
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge base

On-Call Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the on-call roster rotation (approximately one week every quarter)
  • Respond to critical incidents outside of business hours when on-call
  • Escalate complex issues to senior engineers when necessary
  • Document incident resolution and contribute to post-incident analysis

Technical skills:

Essential:

  • 1-3 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or system administration
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred, but AWS/GCP experience welcome)
  • Experience with at least one programming/scripting language (C#, Python, or PowerShell preferred)
  • Solid understanding of Git and version control workflows
  • Basic networking, security, and Linux/Windows administration knowledge
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and desire to improve deployment processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication skills - able to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation (approximately 1 week every 8 weeks)
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Highly Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience with Azure App Services and Azure cloud services
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Pingdom, PagerDuty, Azure Application Insights, Raygun)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines)
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles
  • Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of SQL and database performance basics
  • Experience with IIS, Windows Services, or Linux VMs

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Personal projects showcasing automation or infrastructure work
  • Contributions to open-source DevOps tools or projects
  • Experience with incident response and post-mortem processes
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • A track record of identifying and eliminating toil

What We Offer

Technical Growth:

  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers
  • Hands-on experience with multi-cloud architecture
  • Clear progression path to Senior DevOps/SRE roles
  • Time and support for learning new technologies
  • Real ownership of critical infrastructure projects

Work Environment:

  • 6-week development cycles with "Cool Down" periods for innovation and learning
  • Modern tech stack with the freedom to introduce new tools
  • Collaborative team that values knowledge sharing
  • Regular tech talks and learning sessions
  • Flexible working arrangements

The Package:

  • Competitive salary for early-career DevOps engineers
  • Professional development budget

  • 5 Wellbeing days per year
  • The joy of knowing your work directly impacts thousands of small businesses

About the Role

This is a full-time position based in our Auckland office with flexible working arrangements. You'll join a team that takes their work seriously but doesn't take themselves too seriously. We believe in sustainable on-call (roughly 1 week every 8 weeks), proper incident reviews without blame, and celebrating both the wins and the learning opportunities.

If you're ready to level up your DevOps career in an environment that combines technical excellence with genuine fun, where you can automate away the boring stuff while building systems that matter, we'd love to hear from you.

Above all, you must be excited about joining a world-class engineering team powering a global SaaS business. We value team members who act with integrity, share knowledge generously, and understand that the best solutions come from collaboration.
