We are now seeking an Engineering & Technical Lead to provide national technical leadership and sector influence at a pivotal time for the industry.

This is a senior, nationally influential position reporting to the CEO which requires deep technical expertise, strategic systems thinking, and exceptional collaboration skills.

You will:
- Provide whole-of-system leadership across the electricity value chain
- Champion future-focused grid transformation, electrification, DER and demand flexibility integration
- Lead thinking on interoperability, standards alignment, digitalisation, data, and emerging technologies
- Guide industry collaboration to deliver innovation and continual improvement

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Guidance
- Lead development and maintenance of industry technical rules, best practice guidance, and engineering standards
- Oversee technical papers, submissions, and the rolling review programme to ensure guidance remains current and authoritative
- Champion consistency, interoperability, and standardisation across the industry
- Represent industry perspectives in NZ and Australian Standards development
- Work constructively with regulators and policy agencies including:
- WorkSafe New Zealand
- Electricity Authority
- Commerce Commission
- EECA
- Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
- Lead industry workshops, forums, and webinars
- Publish technical reports and thought pieces incorporating domestic and international insights
- Monitor emerging trends and technologies, identifying risks and opportunities
- Lead collaboration across electricity generation, transmission, distribution, contracting, consulting, and technology providers
- Maintain strong partnerships with organisations including:
- Electricity Networks Aotearoa
- Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand
- Engineering New Zealand
- Enhance the EEA's mana and reputation as a trusted, independent technical authority
About You
You are a technical leader with deep electricity supply industry expertise (10+ years or equivalent experience) and a strong systems-thinking mindset.
You will have:-
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering or closely related field
- Demonstrated leadership of engineering or industry programmes
- Proven technical writing capability (guidelines, submissions, standards, board papers)
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience across industry and regulators
- Understanding of electricity legislation and regulation
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, digitalisation, and the growing role of data and AI
- Excellent presentation skills and confidence engaging senior leaders
- Project and budget management capability
