About the role I Mō te tūnga

We’re seeking two capable Systems Engineers (internally called Engineering Specialists) to deliver key engineering workstreams as advanced Sensor and Communication Systems are integrated into the New Zealand Army’s information environment.

These roles are ideal for engineers who enjoy detailed technical work as much as system-level thinking.

Working for the Ministry of Defence your engineering judgement and ability to resolve complex technical issues will help ensure solutions meet Defence standards and support operational needs.

You’ll be closely involved in integration testing, troubleshooting, risk identification, and verification of capabilities such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, intelligence systems, and electronic warfare technologies or network and communication systems.

You’ll operate within an integrated Ministry of Defence and New Zealand Defence Force team, collaborating daily with specialists from both organisations. This joint environment gives you a direct, influential role in how advanced, network-enabled technologies are designed, delivered, and brought into service for the future Army.

Do you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex engineering systems projects
  • Deep understanding of systems engineering principles, practices, and methodologies
  • Proficiency with project management tools and techniques
  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills across concurrent workstreams
  • Effective leadership and team-coordination capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling confident stakeholder engagement
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities for navigating technical challenges
  • Experience with system modelling, simulation software, and other relevant engineering tools
  • We ask all our people to undertake a commitment to doing their part to deliver on the Crown’s commitments to Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We do this by actively striving to build te ao Māori capability into our day to day work.

You don’t have to tick every box. If the role sounds like you please apply.
